Follow that Fish! is exciting and innovative new, interactive sensory theatre show that has been developed for 2-5 year olds with the support of the Ribble Life Together project’s Heritage Lottery Funding and Arts Council England’s Grants For Arts programme.
Follow That Fish! developed ideas from previous work, linking a journey down a river with the relationship between a bear (and others) and the river. These were brought together into a simple tale of a bear engaging with the river and following a fish to a variety of rural and urban themed locations, which audiences were invited to join in with.
The outreach sessions reflected the theatre piece through different play spaces. As well as an enjoyable experience for the children, the show introduced the ideas of catchment management and the different pressures faced by rivers, albeit in a very simple way. The outreach sessions in particular provided opportunities to engage with the parents and other family members.
The show was devised and created by Preston based producers They Eat Culture and Fylde based Fable Arts alongside theatre makers Horse + Bamboo. Follow that Fish! was shown at the Preston Continental and Oswaldtwistle Civic Arts Centre and attracted a range of audiences, with over 130 adults and children taking part in the interactive show.
Follow that Fish! is one of six community art projects that have been funded by Ribble Life Together and builds on the Babies Overboard theatre project that ran during the development phase.
