Sensational Streams

Humans and other animals have five senses – sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. These senses help us to observe and understand what is happening in the world around us and, sometimes, we can use all five of our senses at the same time without even realising it! When you go outside, there are lots of different things to see, hear, feel, taste and smell.

Why not use some of your time today to go on a sensory river walk and write down all the things you sense? Below are four worksheets to help you get started; you could take all four on one walk or take each one on a separate walk – this is completely up to you.

Try writing some descriptions of what you see, hear, feel and smell too. Can you use some metaphors and similes? Have fun!
